The Department of Arabic and Islamic History at MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, is one of the oldest and most distinguished academic units of the institution. Established with the undergraduate programme in 1979 and expanded with a postgraduate programme (MA) in 2013, the department has consistently contributed to the academic and intellectual development of students. It offers a range of programmes designed to enhance analytical ability, critical thinking, and research skills, preparing learners to excel in diverse professional fields.
The discipline of Islamic History provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary understanding of the evolution of Islamic thought and Muslim societies across the world. The curriculum integrates key areas such as history, religion, philosophy, anthropology, and Arabic language and literature, along with related literatures in Persian, Turkish, Urdu, and Arabic-Malayalam. This broad academic framework enables students to engage with foundational texts, traditions, institutions, and cultural developments, while also remaining responsive to contemporary interpretations and emerging scholarly perspectives.
The department is committed to academic excellence through a learner-focused approach that encourages inquiry, innovation, and lifelong learning. It emphasizes the development of research aptitude and intellectual depth, equipping students with the skills necessary for higher studies, professional careers, and leadership roles in society.
Guided by its vision of “never-compromising academic excellence with an inheritance of values in Islamic civilization,” the department strives to nurture graduates who combine knowledge with ethical values. Its mission focuses on shaping competent individuals capable of contributing meaningfully to academia, research, and society through integrated learning and leadership.
