Prof. K. I. MOHAMMED KUTTY MEMORIAL LIBRARY & KNOWLEDGE RESOURCE CENTRE, The Central Library of M.E.S Kalladi College serves as a vibrant center for reading, learning, and accessing an extensive array of educational materials

Established in 1967, the library has evolved into a comprehensive resource center, catering to the diverse needs of students, faculty, and researchers. Initially housed within a room in the main block, the library later acquired its own individual building in 1990 which was further renovated in 2019. Today, it spans an impressive 5700 square feet, equipped with modern infrastructure including centralized air conditioning. Its welcoming ambiance and user-friendly atmosphere are further enhanced by state-of-the-art automation, featuring the latest software, RFID technology, and a Wi-Fi network, enhancing its overall presentation and accessibility.

AUTOMATION OF LIBRARY

The library of M.E.S Kalladi College is automated with the Koha (version 23.05) Open Source Integrated Library Management System (ILMS). The library is using the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system to organise its wealth of resources neatly, making it easy for everyone to find what they need, and DSpace an open source institutional repository software is used for institutional repository service, providing an organized platform for preserving and disseminating the scholarly output of the college community.

Technology Integration:

The library operates an in-house server dedicated to hosting Koha and DSpace. It utilizes RFID technology for circulation, entry and exit tracking of users, stock verification, finding misplaced books, and theft detection. All members of the college library are provided with RFID-tagged ID cards, and all books in the library carry a RFID sticker.

Equipped with a 100 Mbps fiber optic broadband connection and a static IP address, the library’s infrastructure facilitates remote access services, offering round-the-clock remote access to the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and Institutional repository for online searches. Users can easily access the catalogue and Institutional repository through the link provided on the library page of the college website, enabling them to explore the library's resources conveniently from any location. Additionally, the Knowledge Resource Centre provides Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing users to use their personal laptops within the library space.
