The Department of Statistics at MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, plays a vital role in promoting data-driven learning and analytical thinking among students. The department is committed to providing a strong foundation in statistical methods and their practical applications across various disciplines.
Under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUG), the department offers Minor and Multi-Disciplinary Courses (MDC) in Statistics. In addition, a Minor course is offered for students of the Integrated Psychology Programme, enabling interdisciplinary learning and research skills. Currently, more than 55 students are enrolled in the Minor and MDC courses, reflecting the growing interest in the subject.
The curriculum is designed to balance theory and practice, covering key areas such as Descriptive Statistics and Inferential Statistics. To enhance practical understanding and employability, students are trained in modern statistical tools and software, including Microsoft Excel, R programming, and JASP. This hands-on approach equips students with essential skills for data analysis, visualization, and interpretation.
The study of Statistics has wide-ranging scope in today’s data-centric world. It is fundamental in fields such as economics, business, healthcare, social sciences, data science, artificial intelligence, and research. Graduates with statistical knowledge can pursue careers as data analysts, statisticians, researchers, actuaries, and policy planners, or continue higher studies in statistics and related domains.
