Forensic Science

The Department of Forensic Science was established in the year 2021, marking a transformative era for the institution and the region’s higher education landscape. The Department’s inception was a momentous occasion for Calicut University, as it introduced the Masters in Forensic Science. This glorious journey was officially inaugurated on 9th of February, 2021, by Adv. N. Shamsuddin, MLA.

The academic focus is to provide a comprehensive understanding of Forensic Science, covering areas like Forensic Chemistry, Toxicology, Ballistics, DNA Profiling, Fingerprint Analysis, Cyber Forensics, and Questioned Document Examination. The department integrates modern technology in teaching, utilizing digital platforms to foster an interactive learning environment.

Students benefit from well-equipped laboratories, a specialized chemical storage facility, and ICT-enabled classrooms, supporting their academic and research endeavors. The department’s research culture is robust, with students and faculty frequently presenting at international conferences and publishing in reputed journals.

The curriculum bridges theory and practice through mandatory internships, expert seminars, workshops, and conferences. Many alumni have cleared competitive exams like FACT and UGC NET, securing roles in Forensic Science laboratories or academia. This success highlights the department's commitment to developing high-caliber professionals who contribute significantly to the criminal justice system.
