Debate on POPULATION GROWTH: A BLESSING OR A CURSE
A debate on the topic "Population Growth: A Blessing or a Curse" was organized by the PG and Research Department of Economics, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad on Friday, 11th July 2025 at 2:30 PM. The event was held in Room No. MB 303. The debate witnessed enthusiastic participation from the final-year BA Economics and final-year MA Economics students. The programme was moderated by Dr. Shameer Moozhiyan, who guided the proceedings with insightful observations and thought-provoking questions. Participants presented strong arguments on both sides of the motion. Those in favor of population growth highlighted aspects such as the demographic dividend, increased labor force, market expansion, and innovation driven by human capital. On the other hand, the opposing side discussed challenges including unemployment, pressure on natural resources, poverty, environmental degradation, and the difficulty of ensuring sustainable development. All faculty members of the department were present and actively contributed to the discussion.
