The Bhoomithrasena Club, in collaboration with the Departments of Botany and Zoology at MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, organized a film screening to commemorate World Nature Conservation Day 2024. The event was held on August 22, 2024, at the Satyajit Ray Audio-Visual Lab from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.

The event was held on August 22, 2024, at the Satyajit Ray Audio-Visual Lab from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM.The program commenced with a welcome speech by Dr. Sereena K, Head of the Department of Botany, followed by the inauguration by Moideen O. H., Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, in the absence of the Principal. Nazeema M. K., the Program Coordinator and Faculty-in-Charge of the Bhoomithrasena Club, introduced the national award-winning film Ottaal to the audience. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Noufal, the Student Coordinator and a second-year postgraduate student of M.A. Islamic History. About 115 students from different departments participated in the program. The screening began at 11:45 AM and was followed by a film review session conducted by the students.Film Overview:Ottaal (English: The Trap) is a 2015 Indian Malayalam film directed by Jayaraj, adapted from the short story "Vanka" by Russian author Anton Chekhov. The film features Ashanth K Sha and Kumarakom Vasudevan in lead roles, along with Shine Tom Chacko, Sabitha Jayaraj, and Thomas G. Kannampuzha. Ottaal made history as the first Malayalam movie to sweep all the top awards at the International Film Festival of Kerala in its 20-year history. It was also one of four Malayalam films selected for the Indian Panorama at the International Film Festival of India in Goa in November 2015.The film tells the poignant story of a young boy, Kuttappai (played by Master Ashanth K Sha), and his relationship with his grandfather, Vallyappachayi (played by Kumarakom Vasudevan), his only living relative. The narrative is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s timeless work, Vanka, set in the present day in a small village in South India.
