Workshop on botanical illustration
The session was handled by Ms. Muhsina A. A., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, MES Kalladi College (Autonomous), Mannarkkad. The resource person introduced the participants to botanical illustration as an important tool for accurately documenting and communicating plant characteristics. The session focused on the importance of careful observation, accurate representation of plant parts, proportion, structure, and scientific detailing in botanical illustrations. The participants were familiarized with the basic principles and techniques involved in preparing botanical illustrations. The session also highlighted the relevance of botanical illustration in plant identification, taxonomy, documentation, education, and scientific communication. The workshop provided an opportunity for students to understand how artistic skills can be integrated with botanical knowledge to produce scientifically meaningful illustrations. The practical and interactive nature of the session encouraged the participants to develop greater interest in observing and documenting plant morphology. The programme was attended by 13 students from MSc botany (3rd semester). The participants actively engaged in the session and benefited from the guidance and demonstrations provided by the resource person.
