Extension activity-World environment day tree plantation drive
Report on Extension Activity – World Environment Day Tree Plantation Drive The Research and Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, MES Kalladi College (Autonomous), Mannarkkad, jointly organized an extension activity titled “Plant for Planet – Tree Plantation Drive” on the occasion of World Environment Day, 5 June 2026. The programme was conducted in association with NSS Units 32 & 65, Bhoomithrasena Club, the Department of Botany, and in collaboration with the Mannarkkad Forest Division. The activity was carried out at the Kacheriparambu Forest Area and the college campus with the objective of promoting environmental conservation and creating awareness about the importance of afforestation. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Imras Alias Nawaz, Range Forest Officer, Mannarkkad, who delivered the keynote address. In his speech, he emphasized the need to create environmental awareness among the younger generation and highlighted the crucial role of tree planting in maintaining ecological balance. He also spoke about the adverse effects of the unethical and indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources and stressed the importance of sustainable practices for ensuring a better quality of life for present and future generations. His inspiring message encouraged students to actively participate in environmental protection initiatives. The programme was attended by several distinguished guests and faculty members, including Ms. Ambili V. R., Beat Forest Officer, Ms. Bindhu K., Bhoomithrasena Coordinator, Ms. Naseema M. K., Dr. Juliya A. P., NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Shareef K., NSS Programme Officer, and Ms. Muhsina K., Faculty, Department of Botany. Their presence and support added significance to the event and motivated the participants. As part of the programme, various indigenous and environmentally beneficial tree saplings were planted in the designated areas. Students, faculty members, NSS volunteers, Bhoomithrasena members, and forest officials actively participated in the plantation drive. The activity aimed not only at increasing green cover but also at instilling a sense of environmental responsibility among the participants. The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from all stakeholders. The tree plantation drive served as a meaningful extension activity that strengthened community engagement and reinforced the institution’s commitment to environmental sustainability and ecological conservation. The event highlighted the collective responsibility of protecting nature and inspired participants to contribute towards building a greener and healthier planet.
