WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2025 SEED BALL MAKING In observance of World Environment Day, a meaningful and action-oriented event was organized at Thodukappukunnu in collaboration with the Forest Department of Mannarkkad on 5-6-2025. The Second Year Chemistry students of MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad organized a Seed Ball Making activity as part of their environmental outreach efforts. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about ecological conservation and promote reforestation using a sustainable, hands-on method. Under the guidance of Dr Juliya A P and the HOD Dr Muhammed Musthafa T N , students prepared seed balls using native plant seeds, red soil, compost, and natural binding agents like clay. The activity not only allowed students to engage in practical environmental work but also highlighted the importance of biodiversity and responsible citizenship. The seed balls created during the session will be used during upcoming plantation drives, contributing to greener surroundings and ecological restoration. The program focused on promoting ecological awareness and sustainability, with a key activity centered around seed ball making and dispersal—a simple yet effective method of reforestation and soil restoration.The function was presided over by Mr. Subair, Forest Range Officer , and coordinated by Dr. Juliya A P. The event commenced with a warm welcome to the attendees, followed by the official inauguration by K P S, Payyanadam. The inaugural address emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation efforts.Mr. Subair, K P S, Payyanadam, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, highlighting the collaborative efforts required between government agencies and the public to combat climate change and protect biodiversity.The event also saw the active participation of the Fire and Safety team and the Taluk Disaster Response Force (TDRF) team from Calicut, whose presence underscored the significance of preparedness and proactive measures in managing environmental crises.The felicitation ceremony featured words of encouragement and support from Naseema Teacher, Abid Sir, and Dr. Juliya A P, who appreciated the enthusiasm of the participants and the relevance of the activities conducted. A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by the Deputy Range Officer Sunil Kumar from Thiruvizhamkunnu, expressing gratitude to all guests, students, volunteers, and supporting staff for making the event a resounding success.The highlight of the day—seed ball making and dispersal—was met with enthusiastic participation, symbolizing hope and collective responsibility for nurturing nature.This Environmental Day celebration not only educated participants on sustainable practices but also fostered a spirit of community engagement and environmental stewardship.
