The department of Travel and Tourism of MES Kalladi College started functioning in the year 2021. The department offers three-year vocational degree course in Travel and Tourism & Hospitality Industry, affiliated to University Of Calicut. Tourism is one of the fastest growing industries and has attained increasing recognition as a crucial sector with enormous potential for generating employment. B.voc Travel and Tourism is a work integrated degree programme which is more focused on providing the industry related skills to the students so that they can get better opportunities.

Students of the department play a prominent role in organizing innovative events and programs. A platform for hands on training in the form of internship and on-the-job training in various organization help students to apply their theoretical knowledge and prepare them to face challenges of job market.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Getting exposure to the fundamental concepts and theories in acquiring skills for different aspects of tourism.
  • Achieve critical sensibility towards the social, economic and community situation and to develop critical thinking ability that will be useful to them in their personal and Professional life.
  • Make the students competent for employment in tourism and hospitality across the globe.
SCOPE

After the successful completion of the course, each student shall have the following proficiency and competency:-

  • Knowledge to interpret the fundamental principles of essential hospitality and tourism business functions.
  • Demonstrate competencies in interpersonal communication and organizing skills.
  • Develop self-esteem and a sense of self-presentation.
  • Demonstrate professional behavior and competencies in customer service.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in travel and tourism industries.
COURSE CONTENT

The B.voc THM degree program has the following components:

  • Theoretical classroom sessions
  • Study tour each year to learn about tour operations.
  • Industrial visit to a 5 star hotel or resort to learn operations in a hotel/resort.

There are core courses, complementary courses; project, open courses, and audit course that are connected to the tourism and hospitality industry.

HIGHER STUDIES OPTIONS

The students can go for various PG programmes like MBA (diff. streams), MTTM, MTHM, MHM, Hotel Management & Catering Science, etc. in Indian institutes such as IITTM (Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management), KITTS (Kerala Institute of Travel and Tourism Studies), Pondicherry University, Jamia Millia Islamia etc and abroad
