CLASS ON MAN ANIMAL CONFLICT BY FOREST OFFICERS On 30/10/2024, a group of 14 second-year MSc Forensic Science students from MES Kalladi College Mannarkkad, accompanied by faculty members Aiswarya R. and Sooraj Kristina U. participated in an insightful session on "Man-Animal Conflier" organized by the Silent Valley National Park department The session was conducted by Mrs. Sowmya and Mr. Arun, Beat Forest Officers (BFO) of the Bhavani range. Mrs. Sowmya began by explaining the structural divisions of the park, focusing on the Silent Valley and Bhavani ranges, and emphasized the importance of protecting forests and wildlife for ecological balance and future generations. She detailed the roles and responsibilities of forest officers in conserving biodiversity and addressing environmental threats. Mr. Arun elaborated on illegal activities and crimes within forest areas, including poaching, deforestation, and other offenses. while also explaining the significance of the Red Data List for endangered species protection. Drawing from his professional experience, he shared real-life examples, including the Malayattoor poaching case, and outlined the investigative procedures followed in such incidents, highlighting the challenges and strategies involved. His personal anecdotes and practical insights enriched the session, festering a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation and the complexities of man-animal conflicts. This session was a transformative learning experience for the participants, instilling a sense of responsibility and emphasizing the importance of ethical coexistence with nature, complementing the field exposure and leaving a lasting impact on their understanding of wildlife forensics and conservation
