Department Profile
The inception of the English Department coincides with the founding year of the college in 1967. During its nascent stage, the department handled pre-degree courses and common courses for undergraduate programmes offered by other departments. In 2014 the Department got upgraded with a UG programme of BA English Language and Literature.
The inaugural cohort of the Bachelor of Arts in English program comprised 24 students. Following the initial batch, until 2023 a total of seven succeeding groups of students completed their academic programs and got graduated .A significant proportion of these alumni have since achieved favorable professional placements across diverse sectors. In the initial phase the programme of BA English was under Calicut University Choice Based Credit Semester System (CUCBCSS). Notably, beginning with the 2019 admissions cycle, the implementation of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCSS) prompted a comprehensive curriculum revision.
Insight about the course
The Department of English provides a Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme in English Language and Literature at the undergraduate level, along with English courses in the first four semesters of the degree programme. The undergraduate programme now incorporates both internal and external assessments. Assignments, exam scores, seminars, and attendance form the basis of internal assessment. Internal assessments will be completed using a grading system that allocates 15/20 marks for each evaluation.
