Department Profile
The Department of Arabic and Islamic History is one of the oldest courses established in MES Kalladi College. The Department has a variety of undergraduate and master’s programs in all sections of students to develop the intellectual scope and deepen the analytical skills of our students. The curriculum in the department is rich and deep as the learner is able to acquire knowledge and develop the skills of critical thinking, research methodology and necessary innovative skills that enable them to make a difference in any profession of their choice. The UG Course was started in 1979 and MA in2013.
Insight about the course
Islamic history generally refers to the historical study of Islam and Islamic civilization. Islamic history provides the opportunity to study the developments of Islamic thought and Muslim societies from a broad multidisciplinary perspective. It includes the range of foundational documents, traditions, institutions and history of Muslims throughout the world. This interdisciplinary field therefore includes history, religion, philosophy, anthropology, Arabic language and literature, as well as literatures in other languages including Persian, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic-Malayalam, and remains responsive to new discoveries, interpretations, ideologies and theories.
