This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical skills required in the job market. The program was conducted in collaboration with the Kerala Food Technologists Association (KEFTA), a professional body dedicated to the advancement of food technology in the region.Objectives of the ProgramEnhance Employability Skills: Equip students with the necessary skills to improve their employability in the food technology sector.CV Writing: Provide guidance on creating effective CVs that highlight students' strengths and experiences.Career Guidance: Offer insights into various career paths available in the food technology field.Job Application Strategies: Teach students how to approach job applications and interviews effectively.Program ScheduleThe program was structured into several interactive sessions, each focusing on different aspects of career preparation:Inauguration:The program commenced with an inaugural address by the Head of the Department, who emphasized the importance of skill development in today’s competitive job market.Session 1: CV MakingA workshop on CV writing was conducted by a guest speaker from KEFTA, who shared best practices for creating impactful CVs. Students were guided on how to tailor their CVs to specific job roles, emphasizing the importance of clarity, conciseness, and relevance.Session 2: Career GuidanceThis session featured a panel of industry experts who discussed various career opportunities in the food technology sector, including roles in food safety, quality control, product development, and research. The panelists shared their personal experiences and provided valuable advice on navigating the job market.Session 3: Job Application StrategiesThe final session focused on job application strategies, including how to write cover letters, prepare for interviews, and network effectively. Students participated in mock interviews, receiving constructive feedback from the facilitators.Q&A Session:The program concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to clarify their doubts and seek further guidance from the experts.ParticipationThe program witnessed enthusiastic participation from all third-year Food Technology students, with over 80% attendance. Students actively engaged in discussions, asked questions, and participated in practical exercises, demonstrating their eagerness to learn and improve their career prospects.FeedbackFeedback collected from participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the program. Students appreciated the practical insights provided by industry experts and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their skills. Many students highlighted the importance of the CV writing workshop and the mock interview sessions as particularly beneficial.ConclusionThe Finishing School Program organized by the Department of Food Technology at MES Kalladi College, in collaboration with KEFTA, successfully equipped students with essential skills for their future careers. The program not only enhanced their employability but also boosted their confidence in approaching job opportunities.
