REPORT OF MEDICAL COLLEGE VISITAn industrial visit was conducted at MES Medical College, Valanchery on November 17, 2023, organized by the Department of Forensic Science for 2nd Year MSc Forensic Science students. The purpose of the visit was to provide students with practical insights into the topic of "Autopsy."The visit commenced with a morning session at 10:00 AM, led by Dr. Prasannan, the Chief Lecturer. Dr. Prasannan delivered a comprehensive lecture covering modes of death, types of autopsy, and the objectives and procedures involved in the autopsy process.Following this, Dr. Hemanth Mohan P B conducted the second session, focusing on techniques of autopsy and postmortem changes. He provided insights into various autopsy techniques, postmortem changes, types of dissection, and the collection of viscera, emphasizing safety precautions. Additionally, Dr. Hemanth Mohan P B conducted a video demonstration of the postmortem procedure.In the afternoon, students were given the opportunity to visit the museum, which housed various forensic samples including weapons, bullets, preserved snakes, foetuses, and poisonous plants and seeds. Dr. Hemanth Mohan P B delivered a lecture on estimating the age of foetuses and identifying different snake species.The industrial visit provided invaluable practical insights into the field of forensic science, offering a deeper understanding of autopsy procedures and forensic techniques. Students found the experience to be enriching and insightful, supplementing their academic knowledge with real-world applications.
