Forensic photography Workshop to enrich the students with skills of camera functioning
The Department of Forensic Science at MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, organized a one-day workshop on Photography Titled “Mastering Camera Functions for Forensic Documentation” on 1st December 2025 at 10.00 AM. The program aimed to enhance students’ practical skills in Forensic photography, an essential component of crime scene documentation and evidence preservation. The workshop focused on understanding camera functions, photographic techniques, and their application in Forensic investigations. The workshop was coordinated by Ms. Dinsha K, Head of the Department of Forensic Science. The event was held under the leadership and support of Dr. Rajesh C, Principal of MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, who inaugurated the session and emphasized the importance of accurate visual documentation in Forensic science. The guest speaker for the workshop was Dr. Vishnu K J, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad who delivered an insightful session combining the principles of visual communication with technical mastery of digital cameras. Dr. Vishnu K J began by highlighting the role of photography in Forensic documentation, including preserving crime scene integrity, recording evidence accurately, supporting investigative and legal processes, ensuring reproducibility and admissibility of photographic evidence. Participants were given a detailed explanation of camera components and controls essential for Forensic work like Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO settings, white balance and lighting conditions, focus controls and depth of field, use of tripods, scales, and reference markers, file formats and storage considerations. A hands-on demonstration session followed by practical exercises enhanced student’s understanding of technical camera handling, best practices in forensic documentation, professional photographic standards required in legal contexts and the importance of precision and objectivity in visual evidence recording. Students expressed that the workshop significantly improved their confidence and competence in Forensic photography. The coordinated efforts of Ms. Dinsha K (HoD) and other faculty members, valuable support from Principal Dr. Rajesh C, and the expert guidance of Dr. Vishnu K J made the event a noteworthy academic experience. The session not only enriched technical knowledge but also encouraged meaningful, inter-departmental collaboration within the campus.
