WORKSHOP ON HOPE IN ACTION: PSYCHOLOGICAL FIRST AID

The Department of Psychology, MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, organized a workshop on the theme “Hope in Action: Psychological First Aid” on 10th September 2025, in association with jeevani as part of the observance of World Suicide Prevention Day. The resource person for the session was Ms. Stella Kurian, a practicing Clinical Psychologist at Dymphna Vadakkenchery, consultant at Karuna Medical College Hospital, Chittur, and District Resource Centre, Palakkad. She also serves as an Assistant Professor at Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, Mundur. The program was coordinated by Ms. Fathimath Sakiya, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. The workshop was attended by both students and faculty members of the Integrated M.Sc. Psychology program. The session highlighted the importance of psychological first aid in preventing suicide and supporting individuals in crisis. Ms. Stella Kurian discussed practical strategies for offering immediate care and support, emphasizing the role of empathy, active listening, and hope in strengthening resilience during times of emotional distress. The session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in meaningful discussions, sharing reflections, and clarifying doubts with the resource person. The workshop created a deeper understanding of the role of psychological first aid in suicide prevention, enabling participants to acquire practical skills for real-life application. Students and faculty developed greater awareness of empathetic approaches and the importance of cultivating hope when supporting those in distress. The interactive nature of the session encouraged experiential learning and critical thinking, leaving participants more confident and equipped to contribute positively to mental health awareness and crisis intervention. Overall, the workshop was impactful, socially relevant, and an enriching learning experience for all.
