EXTENSION ACTIVITY- LACTIMOR
As part of National Milk Day celebrations 2024-LACTIMOR, we extended our outreach by visiting Poothozhikkavu Anganwadi and Old Age Home to promote the importance of milk and nutrition. At the Anganwadi, we distributed milk chocolates prepared by our students and to raise awareness about health benefits of milk and milk products. At the Old Age Home, we shared ghee, spent quality time with the elderly, and organized awareness class on about health benefits of milk and milk products. This initiative aimed to spread warmth, care, and the message of good nutrition across all generations.
With the objective to educate children and caregivers about the role of milk and milk products in growth and bone health and to engage with the local community and emphasize the importance of dairy products in daily nutrition, On 25/11/2024, the Department of Dairy Science conducted an extension activity at the Anganwadi in Poothozhikavu, Palakkad. The program aimed to promote awareness about the importance of milk and dairy products for children's growth and development. Milk chocolates were distributed to the children at the Anganwadi. The chocolates, made with milk as a primary ingredient, served as an enjoyable and nutritious treat for the children. Ms. Akhila, second-year student of BVoc Dairy Science & Technology, led an informative and interactive session. She explained: The role of milk in promoting physical growth and cognitive development in children. The importance of calcium, protein, and other nutrients in milk for building strong bones and teeth. Various milk-based products that can be included in children’s diets for balanced nutrition. Faculty and students interacted with the Anganwadi workers and caregivers to understand the dietary patterns of the children. Recommendations were shared on how to integrate milk and dairy products into the children’s meals effectively. The children and caregivers learned about the nutritional benefits of milk and dairy products.The distribution of milk chocolates provided a fun yet healthy way to promote dairy consumption among children. The initiative fostered positive interactions between the department and the local community.
