2-day hands on workshop on ethical hacking and digital forensic tools

On November 7 & 8, 2024, the Department of Forensic Science at M.E.S Kalladi College, Mannarkkad, organized a comprehensive 2-day hands-on workshop on Ethical Hacking and Digital Forensic Tools, in association with Vethnix Cyber Security and Forensic Science Academy. The orator of the workshop was Mr Venketesh R, Co-Founder and Certified Penetration Tester, Vethnix Cyber Security and Forensic Science Academy. Under his expert guidance participants gained invaluable hands-on experience in ethical hacking and digital forensic analysis. The workshop was inaugurated by Principal Dr. C Rajesh and coordinated by Ms. Haritha Jayachandran, with the support of HOD Ms. Aiswaria R. On day 1( Nov 7, 2024) the session was based on digital tools. The workshop commenced at 9:30 am after inauguration, with Mr. Venketesh R delivering an engaging session on the fundamentals of Cyber Forensics and Digital Evidence.The key topics covered were Cyber vs Digital Forensics, Digital Forensic process, Write blockers and their significance. Participants engaged in practical exercises using various tools and software, including VirtualBox Software, Nmap/Zenmap, FTK Imager, TOR Browser, HashCalc. On November 8, 2024, the second day of the workshop was dedicated to Ethical Hacking, focusing on tools and techniques used to identify, exploit, and mitigate security vulnerabilities.Key topics discussed were Hacking, Types of hackers, Hacking phases, Malware and it's types, Phishing, Vulnerability analysis, Penetration testing vs Ethical Hacking. Participants engaged with Kali Linux software, Commands in Kali Linux, WinRAR software. The 2-day workshop provided participants with an in-depth understanding of both Digital Forensics and Ethical Hacking. Through a blend of theoretical learning and hands-on practice, attendees gained practical experience with various forensic tools, ethical hacking techniques, and cybersecurity principles. The workshop concluded with participants equipped to handle real-world cyber incidents and contribute to securing digital environments. The event also fostered collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a deeper appreciation of the dynamic and ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.
