An overview of the department

MES Kalladi College, Mannarkkad was the first college started by the Muslim Educational Society, Calicut in its noble endeavour to work for the educational advancement of the people. The decision of the society to start the college in Mannarkkad was motivated by the fact that Mannarkkad was one of the most backward areas in the field of education in general and the Muslim Community in particular. It was also the happy outcome of the noble endeavor of the late Kalladi Cheriya Kunhahamed Sahib and the local public. The college started functioning on 3rd July 1967. The seed of commerce was sown in the college in the year 1967 itself. Mr .V.Haris M.com was the only faculty member in the department. The first batch of pre degree commerce presented for university examination in 1969 achieved a pass percentage of 47.

In 1971 the college was upgraded as a degree college and the B.com degree course was started in the same year. Sri.P.P.Ummer Koya (Former Minister for education Kerala.) inaugurated the degree course on 1-12-1971. The first batch of B.com appeared for the University Examination in 1974 and the pass percentage was 23. The college was up graded as a post graduate college by the introduction of M.com in 1978 with six students. The first batch of M.com appeared for the University examination in 1980 and secured 100% result with 1st rank. The B.B.S course was sanctioned to this college in the year 1999 by admitting 22 students and the B.B.S Batch appeared for the university examination in 2002. Deepa . C of this batch secured university 2nd Rank and the pass percentage was 91. From 2002 onwards this course is renamed as B.B.A

Insight about the course

  • To help the students to understand the process of business management and its functions
  • To familiarize the students with current management practices
  • To acquaint students with the concepts of macro -economic environment in which a Business organization operates
  • To enable the students to understand the emerging legal issues in a digital networked environment.
  • To help the students acquire conceptual knowledge of the fundamentals of the accounting and the techniques of preparing the financial statements
  • To enable the students to get familiarized with the regulatory frame work for companies in India
  • To enable the students to acquire knowledge about basics of banking and insurance
  • To impart basic knowledge and equip students with application of principles and provisions of Income-tax Act, 1961 amended up-to-date
